There's no single answer to what Mounjaro costs in the UK, because there are two very different routes — NHS and private — and private prices vary widely between providers. This guide explains why the numbers differ so much and how to compare quotes properly. We deliberately don't list individual pharmacies' prices: Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, and this site is educational. On the NHS: the prescription charge
If you meet the NHS criteria and are prescribed Mounjaro, you pay the standard English prescription charge — £9.90 per item, frozen at that level for 2025/26 and again for 2026/27 — or nothing at all if you qualify for free prescriptions. A prepayment certificate (£32.05 for 3 months, £114.50 for 12) caps the cost if you have several regular medicines. Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The catch is eligibility, not price: NHS access uses much stricter criteria than the private route (BMI 35+ with a weight-related condition, phased rollout). Our guide to NHS vs private eligibility covers the difference in detail.
Privately: why prices vary so much
Most people using Mounjaro for weight loss in the UK pay privately, and quotes for the same pen can differ substantially between providers. Four factors explain most of the variation:
- The September 2025 list-price rise. Eli Lilly raised Mounjaro's UK list price from 1 September 2025 — from roughly £92–122 per pen to £133 for 2.5mg and up to £330 for the highest strengths — citing alignment with prices in other developed countries. Crucially, Lilly offered pharmacies rebate agreements at the same time, and how much of that rebate each pharmacy passes on is a big driver of the price differences you see. (The NHS has a separate supply agreement and was unaffected.)
- Strength tiers. Higher-strength pens cost more, so your price typically rises as you titrate up — budgeting on the starter-dose price alone is a common mistake.
- What's bundled. Some quotes are medicine-only; others include the prescriber consultation, ongoing check-ins, delivery and support programmes. A cheaper headline price with a separate consultation fee can cost more overall.
- Subscription vs one-off. Subscription plans often price lower per pen but commit you to a schedule; pay-as-you-go costs more but flexes with dose changes and breaks.
How to compare quotes properly
Headline per-pen prices are misleading on their own — the number that actually matters is cost per dose at your dose, because a pen's four doses stretch further at lower click-counted doses. Whatever quotes you're weighing, make them comparable:
- Ask what the price includes: consultation, delivery, follow-up support?
- Ask what each strength tier costs — not just the starter dose.
- Check the cancellation terms on subscription plans.
- Convert every quote to cost per dose and per month with the cost calculator — it also compares two quotes or strengths side by side.
If a price looks too good to be true
Be careful with unusually cheap offers. In February 2026 the MHRA issued a safety alert about falsified Mounjaro 15mg pens supplied through an online pharmacy — fake pens whose dose knobs failed in use. Only buy from a UK-registered pharmacy (you can check registration on the General Pharmaceutical Council register), be wary of sellers offering the medicine without any prescriber consultation, and never buy weight-loss injections from social media, marketplaces or beauty salons.
