How the cost of Mounjaro really works
The headline price of a Mounjaro pen only tells half the story. What matters is how much each dose costs you — and that depends on the dose you take, not just the pen you buy. Every KwikPen, from 2.5mg to 15mg, holds the same 240 usable clicks (four full labelled doses of 60 clicks). If you dial less than a full dose, you get more doses out of the pen, and your cost per dose falls.
That's why comparing pens on sticker price alone can mislead. A higher-strength pen costs more up front but often contains far more medicine than you need per injection — so split across your actual dose it can work out cheaper per dose. Use the comparison above to check this for the two prices or strengths you're weighing up.
To turn a dose into clicks first, use the clicks calculator; to see how long a pen lasts, the pen tracker; and to check the general criteria used in the UK, the eligibility checker.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I work out the cost per dose of Mounjaro?
- Divide the price you pay for a pen by the number of doses you get from it. A KwikPen holds 240 usable clicks — four full labelled doses of 60 clicks each. So a pen used at its full dose gives four doses; at half the dose (30 clicks) it gives eight. Enter your pen price and dose above and the calculator does this for you.
- Why is a higher-strength pen sometimes cheaper per dose?
- Because every pen holds the same 240 clicks regardless of strength, a higher-strength pen contains more total medicine. If your dose is below the pen's labelled dose, a stronger pen yields more doses for a similar price — lowering the cost per dose. The comparison tool above shows the difference for your own numbers.
- How much does Mounjaro cost per month?
- It depends entirely on the price you're quoted and how often you inject. The calculator multiplies your cost per dose by the average number of doses per month at your chosen frequency (about 4.3 for weekly dosing). Prices vary widely between pharmacies, so always use the figure you've actually been quoted.
- Do you list Mounjaro prices?
- No. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine and we don't advertise it or its price. This is a neutral calculator: you enter the price your own pharmacy or prescriber gives you, and it does the per-dose and per-month maths.
